It’s time to WASH
5 Nov 2020The National Healthy School and Village program (Programme National École et Village Assainis) is a national program implemented by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Professional Education in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with technical and financial support from UNICEF and other partners, including BAO Systems.
The goals of the program are to improve the survival and development of children and sustainably transform the health of the population through water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in rural and suburban communities. Through this program, the Government of the DRC shows its commitment to achieving UN’s SDG 6, to “ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.”
“From 2008 to 2018, the National Healthy School and Village program declared 10,145 Healthy Villages and 24 Healthy Health Centres, which corresponds to 8,184,742 people with access to a sanitized environment,” states UNICEF in its 2018 Atlas.
BAO Systems’ extensive expertise with DHIS2 and deep knowledge of the development context in DRC places us in a sound position to provide technical support to the National Healthy School and Village program. Under this program, we will build on previous work to optimize the system in place, facilitate interoperability with the national health information system, and develop an interactive and user-friendly web portal to share data with a broader stakeholder base.
Other contributions to the National Healthy School and Village program include developing a system that verifies the quality of the data in the tracker module for audit purposes and building the capacity of the program’s Monitoring and Evaluation team and systems administrators for system maintenance.
