Device connectivity
Device connectivity
We connect point-of-care and field devices to central data systems, closing the last-mile gap between device and decision maker.
Across health programs, the weakest point in the data chain is rarely the laboratory or the clinic. It is the space between a device generating a result and the system responsible for acting on it. We close that gap by making device data visible, structured, and available to the people who need it, across manufacturers, including at remote sites with unstable connectivity. We work with ministries of health, implementing partners, and device manufacturers, each with a different stake in the same data.
How we deliver it
We deliver device connectivity through BAO ConneX, our point-of-care connectivity platform. Field deployments connect through the ConneX Link gateway, which keeps devices reporting even where connectivity is unstable. BAO ConneX works across device manufacturers, and can connect to national health information systems, laboratory information systems, and electronic medical records through standards-based interfaces, including HL7 v2 and FHIR. For programs running DHIS2, results and device metrics can flow directly into the national system. Program teams can also monitor, configure, and manage devices remotely across the whole fleet. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and ownership stays with the ministry or program.
Where a device or system isn’t yet supported, we build the integration as part of our broader data systems work.
Proven in the field
In 2025, we deployed device connectivity for a global diagnostics manufacturer, connecting 2,000+ point-of-care HIV diagnostic machines across eight countries. The deployment modernized the manufacturer’s existing technology stack without data loss or service gaps, and gave health managers near real-time visibility into both test results and device performance, including uptime, quality control, and reagent consumption.
That visibility let facilities identify underused devices, schedule maintenance before failures occurred, and reduce the manual reporting work that had been pulling skilled staff away from patient care.
